**Our Story**
CanLeo Guide started the way most good things do — with a frustrated Google search. When we tried to find simple answers to basic questions — What does an RCMP application actually involve? How long does CBSA hiring take? What's the difference between a federal posting and a provincial one? — we found official pages written in bureaucratic code, forum threads from 2014, and recycled advice that was years out of date.
So we built the resource we wished existed. Today, CanLeo Guide is a growing library of career guides covering every major path into Canadian public service. Every article is researched against primary sources — the RCMP's own recruitment strategy, Treasury Board statistics, CBSA announcements, Statistics Canada data — and written like a mentor explaining things over coffee, not like a policy manual.
**Our Mission**
To help 100,000 Canadians understand, apply for, and win careers in public service. Canada's public sector is the largest employer in the country — and it's hiring. Police services, border agencies, and federal departments are all in active recruitment mode. But the gap between "job posting" and "hired" is where most people get lost. We're closing that gap, one guide at a time.
**Canada Is Hiring — By the Numbers**
* **75,107** — sworn police officers in Canada as of 2025, up 3,641 from 2023 (Statistics Canada)
* **4.6 million** — Canadians working in the public sector — more than 1 in 5 workers nationwide (Statistics Canada, Labour Force Survey)
* **357,965** — employees in the federal public service — Canada's single largest employer across 137 organizations (Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat, 2025)
* **20,839** — applications the RCMP received for its Regular Member recruiting process in 2024–25 — a record, up 17.9% year over year (RCMP Departmental Results Report)
* **$1.8 billion** — committed in Budget 2025 to strengthen Federal Policing, including hiring 1,000 new RCMP personnel (Government of Canada)
* **1,000** — new CBSA officers committed over three years, joining 8,500+ frontline officers at 1,200 ports of entry (CBSA / Canada Border Plan)
**What We Cover**
* **Police Careers:** RCMP Regular Member, municipal and provincial policing (OPP, SQ, EPS, VPD and more), cadet programs, fitness testing (PREP/POPAT), the polygraph and background process, salary breakdowns by rank and province.
* **Federal & Border Careers:** CBSA Border Services Officer, corrections, immigration officers, federal public service postings, security clearance levels, and how the FB-group pay system actually works.
* **The Hiring Process, Decoded:** Resume screening, PSEE and standardized tests, interviews and STAR answers, security clearances, timelines from application to badge — and what causes delays.
* **Money & Real Life:** Salary guides with real take-home math, overtime and shift premiums, pension (PSPP and RCMP pension) explainers, and how postings actually work.
**Why Trust Us**
Canadian job advice online tends to fall into two camps: official pages that are accurate but unreadable, and forums that are readable but wrong. We hold ourselves to a different standard:
* **Primary sources first:** Every stat on this page comes from Statistics Canada, Treasury Board, RCMP, or CBSA publications. When official numbers aren't available, we say so.
* **We update, we don't archive:** Hiring processes, salaries, and inventories change constantly. Guides get reviewed and refreshed — not left to rot.
* **No false promises:** We can't guarantee you'll get hired. Anyone who does is selling you something. We can guarantee you'll walk into every stage of the process knowing exactly what to expect.
* **Independent:** We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any government agency or police service. Our only agenda is publishing guides worth reading.
**Who We Write For**
* **First-time applicants** who open a jobs.gc.ca posting and feel like it's written in another language.
* **Career changers** — tradespeople, nurses, military members, retail managers — wondering if their experience counts.
* **New Canadians** trying to figure out whether their credentials, citizenship status, or background are barriers (usually they're not — and we explain exactly why).
* **Parents and students** researching whether a policing or public-service career is actually a good move in 2026. (Spoiler: the math is getting better, not worse.)
* **Serving the under-34% of the police workforce** — because with women making up only 23% of sworn officers and civilians filling 34% of police-sector roles, the fastest-growing opportunities are the ones nobody tells you about.
